The Rufus Oates Award
Our achievement award, the "Rufus Oates Award" was designed for members of our association only, to honor one of our members, for their outstanding contribution and achievement, in a calendar year. The criteria for the award is simple. Any member who assumes responsibility, and completes those tasks with positive and professional results, will receive consideration for the award.
The award was named after a gentle man who truly cared about Dee Jays, whether you earned a living at the job, or just did it as an avocation. He was a person who cared about you as a customer, as well as a human being. He was just a nice guy!
Judy Collins & Jeannie Elmore, daughters of Rufus Oates, are presented with a commemorative plaque that will hang in Judy's House of Oldies in North Myrtle Beach, noting each recipient of the "Rufus Oates Award" from The NAR&BDJS. Members present: Director Sue Kestner, Jackie Kestner, Director John Hall, Director Mike Little, and President Mike Hall.

This years honor, as voted on by our Board of Directors, goes to Mr. Dave Roby, of Tampa, FL. This award, has long been overdue, since he's been working his fanny off since the inception of our growing organization.

The winner of our annual Rufus Oates Award for 2008 was Mr. Ray Coker, of Houston Texas, and our proud Vice President.
Our Rufus Oates Award for 2009 goes to George Wood of The Memphis Bop Club. George's efforts over the past year, and the past 10 years, in support of our organization, is unrivaled.
Doug’s dedication to our group has been unparalleled. Already a Lifetime member, his expertise on our website has made it one to admire. Giving of his time and energy to keep everything up-to-date, he silently has contributed to our success.
Our internal award, The Rufus Oates Award, went to Rich Kopels for his outstanding job stepping up to the challenge of Board membership, web site, Top Tens and anything else that was asked of him! Congrats, Rich. We certainly appreciate it.
For 2012, our Rufus Oates Award, designed to honor one of our members for their outstanding contribution and achievement, goes to Bill "Willie C." Swanke! Willie C has long been a contributor on the Beach Music scene. Thank you, Willie C. and congratulations!
